Heliotrope, new music from me

My entire life as a recording artist has been stuffed full of advice from well meaning (most times) record execs, friends, agents, managers, booking agents, other musicians…and more! And I've appreciated the advice and it's brought me to the place I am now. Just being me. The world of contemporary music is like the staircases in Harry Potter that just randomly change direction moment to moment…hard to follow and keep up with. But having said that, I have happily been releasing my own music for decades sometimes on my own and sometimes through a film I’m on, and sometimes through my lovely label Hearts of Space.But this Friday the 19th is something a little different. The essence of me. My true voice and self.

About a year ago I created an album for Warner Chappell and when we were talking about the style I just said “I’d like to be me. Dreamy vocals, guitars, cool percussion, original tunes about love and light” and so this album, Heliotrope, was born! I mined my memories and dreams and found a palette that fit…some bari guitar, washed out violin and cello, stacks of vocals, arpeggiated piano patterns, and spacious percussion with deep tones and rhythms. I played keys and guitars, ukes, banjo, fender, and the wonderful Dan Lutz graced the album with his brilliant bass playing as well as talented percussionist MB Gordy. Isaiah Gage and Lisa Dondlinger shared cello and violin, Erik Reichers mixed beautifully. And special thanks to Pat Weaver and Scott Reinwand and Miles Arnay and Nico too! You have all been amazing! It no longer takes a village, it takes a city!

As I was choosing the title I saw this flower while on a walk, Heliotrope, and felt immediately drawn to it . Then I read about it. Loyalty to a higher purpose? yes.Divine presence? Healing? yes. so here we are.

The spiritual meaning of the heliotrope flower centers on devotion, eternal love, and spiritual alignment. It’s rooted in the Greek myth of the water nymph Clytie, who was transformed into the flower for her unwavering pursuit of the sun god Helios, heliotrope symbolizes loyalty to a higher purpose or individual. It also represents healing, prophetic dreams, and the divine presence.

Heliotrope is available on all the DSPs, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music etc and will be up and out on Friday the 19th. Hoping this music will speak to you and move you as making it has done for me.
