Making An Album
Hi All! Have you been as all over the place as I have lately? What a crazy world we are in. My focus remains to bring peace and healing and some much needed joy. and in keeping with that goal, today, yes Friday the 13th, is the day that my album Bird (10th Anniversary Edition), is released!! It's so cool and rare when we as artists get to revisit and tinker with material that is supposedly "done" . I loved being able to dive back in and redo some vocals, edit some detritus, focus some moments and get rid of others. The wonderful Harry Risoleo, my partner in sound, remixed and mastered and I'm so grateful and excited about the results.
About ten years ago I was sitting in a recording studio with Nathan Barr in Topanga. I was finishing a new album and working on the last song, a cover of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. Yes the same song everyone covers. For that reason I wanted it to be different. Suddenly Nate picked up his beautiful blue baritone guitar and said "what about this?" and then he played the first phrase that you hear now on Hallelujah on the album. And I felt it right away. and the rest is history as they say!! Hope you are as moved as I continue to be by his playing.
Here is a little link to wherever you might listen. Some of my favorite tracks? Sinnerman, Let It All Go, Beautiful Disaster, Still Feel Fine (featuring the incredible voice of Abra Moore) ..... and yes Hallelujah!
Would love to hear your thoughts and if you notice any differences in the new versions?!
Thank you for being here, for reading and listening. xo
